Enter the total number of questions on your test and either the number of correct answers or incorrect answers. The calculator will automatically compute your test score as a percentage and convert it to a letter grade. This test grade calculator works for quizzes, exams, and any assessment with multiple questions.
Your test score percentage is calculated by dividing the number of correct answers by the total number of questions and multiplying by 100.
Percentage Score = (Correct Answers ÷ Total Questions) × 100
Or using incorrect answers:
Percentage Score = ((Total Questions - Incorrect Answers) ÷ Total Questions) × 100
The calculator then converts your percentage to a letter grade using standard grading scales.
Test with 50 questions, you answered 42 correctly:
Score = (42 ÷ 50) × 100 = 84%
Letter Grade: B
Test with 25 questions, you got 3 wrong:
Score = ((25 - 3) ÷ 25) × 100 = 88%
Letter Grade: B+
Test with 100 questions, all correct:
Score = (100 ÷ 100) × 100 = 100%
Letter Grade: A+
Most schools use this standard grading scale to convert percentage scores to letter grades:
Note: Some schools may use different grading scales. Always check your institution's specific grading policy.
Some tests assign different point values to different questions. For points-based tests, the formula is:
Percentage Score = (Points Earned ÷ Total Points Possible) × 100
For example, if you earned 85 points out of 100 possible points, your score would be 85%. This calculator works for both equal-point questions and weighted point systems.
