Calculate your semester GPA by entering your course grades and credit hours. Track your academic performance for the current term.
Your semester GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated by multiplying each course's grade points by its credit hours, summing these quality points, and dividing by the total credit hours. This gives you an accurate measure of your academic performance for a specific term.
The formula for calculating semester GPA is:
Semester GPA = (Grade Points₁ × Credit Hours₁ + Grade Points₂ × Credit Hours₂ + ...) / Total Credit Hours
Where:
Student's courses and grades:
Total Quality Points = 12.0 + 13.2 + 11.1 + 12.0 + 12.0 = 60.3
Total Credit Hours = 3 + 4 + 3 + 4 + 3 = 17
Semester GPA = 60.3 / 17 = 3.55
Result: 3.55 GPA for the semester

Pass/Fail Courses
Courses taken as Pass/Fail (P/NP) or Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory (S/U) typically do not count toward your GPA calculation. These courses should be excluded from your semester GPA.
Incomplete Grades
Courses with Incomplete (I) or Withdrawal (W) grades are not included in GPA calculations until a final grade is assigned.
Credit Hour Weight
Courses with more credit hours have a greater impact on your semester GPA. A 4-credit course affects your GPA more than a 3-credit course.
Rounding
Most institutions round GPA to two decimal places. Some schools may have specific rounding policies, so check your academic handbook.
