Calculate your Grade Point Average (GPA) based on your course grades and credit hours. Enter your letter grades and credits to determine your academic performance.
Grade Point Average (GPA) is a standardized numerical representation of your academic performance. It converts letter grades to a point scale (typically 0-4.0) and calculates a weighted average based on credit hours. GPA is used by colleges for admissions decisions, by employers for hiring, and by students to track academic progress and scholarship eligibility.

GPA calculation involves three steps: converting letter grades to grade points, multiplying by credit hours to get quality points, and dividing total quality points by total credit hours.
Step 1: Convert Grades to Points
Convert each letter grade to its corresponding grade point value using the standard 4.0 scale (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, F = 0.0).
Step 2: Multiply by Credit Hours
Multiply each grade point by the number of credit hours for that course to calculate quality points. For example, an A (4.0) in a 3-credit course = 12 quality points.
Step 3: Calculate Average
Add up all quality points and divide by total credit hours. Formula: GPA = Total Quality Points ÷ Total Credit Hours.
Course 1: English (A, 3 credits) = 4.0 × 3 = 12 quality points
Course 2: Math (B, 4 credits) = 3.0 × 4 = 12 quality points
Course 3: History (A-, 3 credits) = 3.7 × 3 = 11.1 quality points
Total Quality Points: 35.1
Total Credit Hours: 10
GPA = 35.1 ÷ 10 = 3.51
Unweighted GPA (4.0 scale)
All classes are treated equally regardless of difficulty level. An A in any class equals 4.0 points, whether it's a regular, honors, or AP course.
Most commonly used by colleges for admissions
Weighted GPA (5.0 scale)
Honors, AP, and IB classes receive extra points. An A in an AP class might be worth 5.0 instead of 4.0, rewarding students for taking challenging courses.
Used by some high schools to recognize course rigor
College Admissions
Competitive colleges typically require 3.5+ GPA. Top-tier schools often expect 3.8+ unweighted or 4.0+ weighted GPAs.
Academic Standing
Most colleges require minimum 2.0 GPA to remain in good academic standing. Below this may result in academic probation.
Scholarships
Many scholarships require maintaining 3.0+ GPA. Merit-based scholarships often require 3.5 or higher.
Graduation Honors
Cum laude (3.5-3.7), magna cum laude (3.7-3.9), and summa cum laude (3.9-4.0) recognize exceptional academic achievement.
