Calculate your ACT composite score by converting raw scores to scaled scores. Enter the number of correct answers for each section to estimate your ACT score based on the Enhanced ACT 2025 format.
The Enhanced ACT, launched in 2025, features a streamlined format with Science as an optional section. Your composite score is calculated by averaging your scaled scores from English, Math, and Reading sections. Each section is scored on a scale of 1 to 36, and your composite score is also on a 1-36 scale.
If you take the optional Science section, you'll receive a separate Science score (1-36) and a STEM score that combines your Math and Science results. However, the Science score does not factor into your main composite score.
Count the number of questions you answered correctly in each section. There is no penalty for wrong answers, so only correct answers count toward your raw score.
Your raw scores are converted to scaled scores (1-36 for each section) using a conversion table. The conversion accounts for slight variations in test difficulty across different administrations.
Add your English, Math, and Reading scaled scores together and divide by 3 to get your composite score. The result is rounded to the nearest whole number (1-36).
If you took the Science section, your STEM score is calculated by averaging your Math and Science scaled scores. This provides insight into your performance in STEM subjects.
Top 1-5% of test takers. Highly competitive for selective colleges and universities. Strong candidate for merit scholarships and honors programs.
Top 10-20% of test takers. Competitive for many four-year colleges and universities. May qualify for merit scholarships at many institutions.
Around the 50th percentile. Meets requirements for many colleges. Consider retaking to improve scholarship opportunities and college options.
Below 50th percentile. May limit college options. Strong recommendation to retake after additional preparation and practice.
Use official ACT practice tests and prep materials. These most accurately reflect the actual test format and difficulty level.
The ACT is known for its tight timing. Practice pacing yourself to complete all questions within the time limit. Skip difficult questions and return if time permits.
Identify which section brings down your composite score and dedicate extra study time to that area. Improving your weakest section has the biggest impact on your composite.
Since Science is optional in the Enhanced ACT, decide whether taking it benefits you. If you're strong in STEM, it can showcase your abilities. If not, you can focus on the three required sections.
